These funky dancing, gardening, walking treads display a juxtaposition of my Rothko Flower and Brissy Backstreets, photographs I have taken during my time in South East Queensland, Australia.
I was drawn to Rothko’s work during my uni years by his playfulness in exploring colour. Both, how it sits wriggling in solitude and its infinite potential to shift and explode through interactions with other colours. I painted a couple of recycled chairs in a Rothko inspired style. They looked magnificent. Then frangipani’s started to fall from a tree in the courtyard that were the same colour pallet. I placed one of them on the chair and took a photo.
I have always had a fascination with industrial organised chaos, especially the wondrous complexity and variety of urban backstreets. The way the buildings create functionality squished in amongst the bustle of CBD life.
